Seeking Matthew Robson: Announcement of the 2010 Awards for Excellence in Global Equity Research
Accolade with US$50,000 award for winning entries marks the end of the Global Research scheme in the United States.
July 2009 has seen the impact of research from unconventional sources, when a high school intern at Morgan Stanley became the focus of research attention. This week also marks the end of the five-year Global Research Analyst Settlement in the United States, which has been an important pillar in facilitating the provision of independent research to the retail audience.
IIR plc strongly believes that efficient markets require visibility and transparency for all investors, large and small. The company is one of three that stands behind the initiative of the London Stock Exchange to boost research on smaller quoted companies, www.psqanalytics.com ; and in 2008, IIR plc launched www.researchoracle.com where the company makes its research reports on 400 international companies available to retail investors, at no charge.
From September 2009, the Research Oracle will begin to accept research submissions from readers - whether amateur or professional analysts - from around the globe. There will be no fee to enter. Entries as a team will be encouraged but not mandatory. A team entry will comprise two pieces of company research and one piece of sector or commodity research. All research meeting minimum standards will be published and subjected to peer review and review by a panel of industry experts.
CEO Shane Smith commented "Since 2004, investors have been provided with independent research by their brokers. This research has a powerful positive impact during a turbulent time. It comes as a surprise that regulators have elected not to implement a successor scheme, so the "Awards" represent our own contribution to fostering visibility and efficiency in equity research".
The winning submissions will be announced in Spring/Summer 2010. The winning team will receive the 2010 Research Oracle Award for Excellence in Global Equity Research, with a bursary of $50,000. The winning individual entrant will receive $10,000. The winners will also be offered a research position with IIR Plc.
Full rules and procedures of the Awards will be published in September, at the time of launch.
